I chose to have iPads in Nizuk Care Home to enable staff to quickly check a
patient’s medicals records on the spot. This enables patients to be taken care of
efficiently and removes the need for staff to run to a computer to check. If all
staff have their own device, this speeds up workflow. This is due to staff not
having to wait until a device is free so they can do their job, instead they can do
it on their own devices. Plus, having 65 iPads instead of 62 allows for mistakes
to happen and it gives the organisation time to replace it if need be. The
drawback to this is that buying dozens of iPads is very expensive. For the
solution to work properly, this is necessary but if only 30 were bought, staff
could still work but would have to share devices to get their work done.
I chose to use Windows 10 as the operating system for Nizuk’s computers. This
choice was made because it is a well known OS that people are familiar with.
This benefits the organisation because they don’t have to train staff on how to
use the devices, as they’re already familiar. Another advantage to using
Windows 10, is security. Due to it being relatively new, it is still being supported
by Microsoft. This means it is still receiving new security updates and patches
which fix any known flaws in the system. The drawback to using Windows 10 is
it is resource intensive. It needs a lot of RAM for the user experience to run
smoothly and run multiple programs at the same time. A solution to this is to
have a computer with a lot of RAM in order to enable the device to do its job
properly.
I chose to use AVG as the organisations anti-virus software. All companies need
anti-virus software, but I chose AVG because it is used by a lot of people. This
increases its reputation as they are pleased that it does its job. Also, it has
special protection features such as protecting users from attacks on the web.
This is particularly useful because a staff member could accidently stumble upon
a dodgy site, that tries to install malicious software onto the computer. AVG will
detect this and stop it from doing damage to the computer. A drawback to using
AVG is that it needs to be paid for in order to protect the system. If Nizuk Care
Home decide not to have an anti-virus, they could leave themselves vulnerable
to malware attacks. A way round it to use the free version of AVG. They won’t
get as much protection as the paid version, but they’ll have some kind of barrier
to protect them from viruses.
