The essay deals with the nature of consciousness, in particular with the question of whether Neuroscience can explain what consciousness really is. It concludes that there will always be a gap between a subjective and an objective understanding of consciousness -- since science can only provide objective explanations, it will necessarily leave open questions about the subjective parts of consciousness, such as experience.
