De interceptieve orthodontische behandeling:
Een interceptieve behandeling is een vroegtijdige kortdurende orthodontische
behandeling die wordt gestart in het melkgebit of in het wisselgebit.
Deze behandeling heeft tot doel een beperkte groep van orthodontische
afwijkingen op jonge leeftijd bij te sturen om op die manier te trachten een meer
ernstige afwijking te voorkomen.
Het doel is om de ernst van het probleem te verminderen en de oorzaak weg te
halen, waardoor een eventuele toekomstige orthodontische behandeling korter is.
Voorbeelden:
Een kruisbeet: als door deze stand de onderkaak bij het dichtbijten in een
onnatuurlijke positie wordt gedwongen, kan dit slecht zijn voor de groei van de
kaak en het kaakgewricht. Daarnaast kan het een beschadiging van de tanden
veroorzaken.
