Amsterdam is the capital city of the Netherlands. The Netherlands is located in
North West Europe. Amsterdam is located in Western Netherlands.
Accessibility
Amsterdam can be accessed by various ways from the UK. It can be accessed by rail.
There are direct train connections from Amsterdam from London St Pancras via
Brussels. Any other European city can access Amsterdam. Amsterdam train station is
called Amsterdam Centraal Station. It takes approximately 4 hours 45 minutes to get to
Amsterdam via train. The train station is in the heart of the city so no transfers are
necessary.
Amsterdam can also be accessed by Air. They have an airport called Schipol. Hundreds of
airlines offer connections to Amsterdam from almost any country in the world. From
London Gatwick to Amsterdam it takes approx. 1 hour 5 minutes. To get into the city
centre you can get the train from the airport to the Centraal Station which takes 17
minutes.
Amsterdam can be accessed via road from the UK. You can drive there by putting your
car on the Eurotunnel or the Ferry. Travelling by ferry takes approx. 7 hours, you will
have to travel through Belgium to get there. Congestion in the city centre can be bad so it
is advised not to bring a car.
Amsterdam can be accessed via boat as it is a port city. Amsterdam have a cruise
terminal right behind the Centraal Station which has recently been renovated and
expanded. Ferry passage from the British Isles is available with Stena Line (cross
channel ferry operator). It takes approximately 7 hours depending on where you catch
the ferry from.
