SCI 207 Our Dependence upon the Environment
After completing Week 1’s discussion post about our environmental footprint
reduction analysis, I discovered that my environmental footprint was not the best
due to my long showers, distance driving, loads of laundry, consumption of meat
every day, and not composting. As stated from last week, below is more in-depth
of my experience with my changes.
Long showers: I was able to shorten my showers by using a timer and
attempting to keep them under 5 minutes. This proved to be possible objective for
, me, allowing me to considerably cut my water consumption. I plan to keep this
habit going and try to cut down on my shower time even further.
Distance driving: I made an attempt to decrease my driving by walking,
biking, or taking public transit whenever possible. I found this difficult owing to
the necessity to travel great distances for business and other obligations, but I
was able to make some progress by combining tasks and organizing trips more
efficiently. I will continue to focus on this habit and look into alternative ways of
transportation whenever possible.
Laundry loads: I lowered the amount of loads by washing larger loads and
waiting until the machine was full before running it. I also tried to use cold water
and air dry clothing wherever feasible. I discovered that this was a doable habit
that enabled me to considerably limit the quantity of water and energy I consumed.
I plan to keep this habit and search for other ways to reduce laundry-related
energy consumption.
Meat consumption every day: I tried to decrease my meat consumption by
setting aside at least one meat-free day per week. This was a modest objective
that allowed me to experiment with new plant-based recipes while also reducing
