A. New Curriculum Proposal
1. Educational Setting
a. Grade Level: Preschool
b. Content Area: Phonemic Awareness
2. Curricular Goal:
L.60.20: Recognize and name known letters of the alphabet in familiar and unfamiliar words
L.60.21: Make some letter-sound connections" (Connecticut Office of Early Childhood,
2014).
Per the Connecticut Office of Early Childhood, the curricular goal is to have students
know some letters and have some letter-sound connections. I will implement explicit
instruction, multisensory activities, and structured practice opportunities to achieve this goal.
3. Curriculum Rationale
Phonemic awareness is a critical predictor of future reading success, yet many young
learners struggle with sound recognition and phonological processing. By implementing a
structured phonemic awareness curriculum, students will receive the necessary support to
build early literacy skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for kindergarten and beyond.
