Essay: Opacity and Brittleness in modern AI systems
In modern AI systems, the core problem is trust. Investigating the brittleness and the opacity of these systems tells us why modern AI systems cannot be trusted with anything that is beyond their scope of operation. In this paper I will present an example of opacity and brittleness of a research prototype called Delphi, which is a neural network designed to model people’s moral judgements in everyday life.
