In December 2013, an 18-month-old child contracted the Ebola Virus Disease from bats,
in a small village in Guinea, a country in Africa. However, at the time, it was not known that the
disease was actually Ebola. The child’s symptoms included vomiting, fever and black stool,
which can indicate a number of different conditions. Health officials in the area posted an official
medical alert on January 24, 2014 after 5 more people contracted the disease, but they called the
disease “unknown.” It was not until March 2014, when the Pasteur Institute of France confirmed
