manufacturing processes
Little's Law - Answer-The average amount of inventory in a system is equal to the product of the average
demand rate and the average time a unit is in the system.
throughput - Answer-the average rate that items flow through a process
throughput for a stable system - Answer-the throughput will be the same as the input rate
throughput for nonstable system - Answer-the throughput will be the same as the process time of the
slowest machine
flowtime - Answer-The time it takes one unit to completely flow through a process (includes waiting
time and idle time)
raw material process time - Answer-the time it takes for each unit to be processed (assume there's no
waiting and idle time)
inventory (work in process) - Answer-throughput x flow time
workstation cycle time - Answer-The time between successive units coming off the end of an assembly
line.
assembly line balancing - Answer-assigning tasks to a series of workstations so that the required cycle
time is met and idle time is minimized
