HUM 111 Assignment 1 2020 - Strayer University Essy The Mystery of the Tomb of Shi Huangdi The Mystery The mystery of the tomb of the First Emperor of China, who died in 210 BC, is not only because of its large size but its monumental history, artifacts, and secrecy of the tombs construction and reason for its opulence. Present day archaeologists are still unearthing artefacts from the 38 square mile tomb. Theories There aren’t many theories around his death because all records point to mercury poisoning (Rushing, 2017) but there are some theories as to why the already large and sprawling tomb was not as large as once thought. The first theory is from Dr. Guo Zhikun, specialist in the history of the Qin (221 BC-206 BC) and Han (206 BC-220 AD) dynasties, has attributed the almost 1000 meter girth reduction of the tomb to erosion from sun, wind and rain and man made changes over the 2000 plus years (Xia, 2007). - - -- - - - - - - - The Most Plausible Theory Even though both have a thread of truth to them I think it is much more plausible and interesting to further investigate Dr. Duan Quingbo’s theory of peasant uprising.
