Explanation
“A Letter to God” is a story about deep faith and simple innocence. It follows Lencho, a poor
but hardworking farmer who depends entirely on his crops to survive. He looks forward to
the rain because it will help his corn grow. When the rain finally comes, he is happy — but
soon the rain turns into a destructive hailstorm. Within minutes, all his hard work is
destroyed. There is nothing left to harvest.
Lencho becomes heartbroken. He strongly believes in God and feels that only God can help
him now. So he decides to write a letter directly to God, asking for 100 pesos so that he can
feed his family and start farming again. His faith is so strong that he truly believes God will
respond.
The postmaster and other employees read the letter. They are touched by Lencho’s faith and
decide to help him. They collect money from their salaries and donations. However, they are
only able to gather 70 pesos, not 100. Still, they put the money in an envelope and address it
as “From God.”
