A. Describe how you could create a supportive learning environment through each of the
following elements, supporting your description with a professional source for each element:
1. Describe how you will communicate teacher expectations that foster cultural responsiveness
for all learners.
I will communicate teacher expectations that foster cultural responsiveness by ensuring that I
am using students’ customs, characteristics, experience, and their perspectives as tools for
better classroom instruction. According to Najaro and Will (2022) “when academic knowledge
and skills are situated within the lived experiences and frames of reference for students, they
are more personally meaningful, have higher interest appeal, and are learned more easily and
thoroughly.” (PG 2) I will make sure that students understand that we accept everyone in the
classroom, and that their cultures and beliefs are valued in our room. I will allow students to
share important things about them that will help to foster their learning experience. I will also
make sure that my expectations for the classroom are clear within the room. I will have it listed
what our classroom expectations are and I will have the why for each one. Often times we have
expectations for the room but students do not understand why we have these expectations. I
will ensure that all students cultures are considered when creating the expectations for the
room.
2. Describe how you can build a culturally responsive environment that will provide emotional
safety for all learners.
I can build a culturally responsive environment that will provide emotional safety for all
learners by making sure that we have routines established, and that all learners identities are
respected and affirmed in the classroom. According to The Institute for Social and Emotional
learning (2025) “Emotionally safe classrooms are responsive to students’ needs and
perspectives, affirm students’ identities and have consistent and predictable routines and
procedures”. (PG 2) I will make sure that in my classroom the identities of my students are
made aware. We will make sure that these identifies are taking into consideration when
creating a schedule in the classroom. I will make sure that all students know that their cultural
identity is important in the classroom, and that they feel welcomed and emotionally secure
within the classroom. I will also provide the students time to share their feelings within the
classroom. We will have an emotion box within the room where students can share how they
feel emotionally within the classroom. Students can share either with their name or
anonymously things that are happening in the classroom that they feel good about, or things
they need more emotional support with.

, 3. Describe how you will promote a sense of belonging for all learners through a culturally
responsive environment.
In my classroom I want to ensure that all of my students feel a sense of belonging. According to
Dunlea (2019) “Belonging in the classroom means ensuring that all students feel welcomed,
comfortable, and part of the school family.” (PG 3) I want to make sure that all of my students
feel welcome within the room. This will begin with making sure that each student is greeted
everyday. Something as simple as a good morning can make a student feel important. I will also
take time to do a share time each day. During this time students can share something that is
important to them. I will make sure that we have flexible seating within the room so that
students have a place to feel comfortable. I will also make sure that we have culturally diverse
images all over the room so that the students know that any culture they come from is valued
and accepted within the room. I will make the students aware that we are a school family, and
that our room is a safe space for them to be themselves. I will enforce that we are open, kind,
and caring within the room and that everyone is free to be themselves without judgement.
Students are free to identify as who they want to identify as, with no judgement.
4. Describe how you will encourage respectful relationships that foster cultural responsiveness.
Within my classroom I want to encourage respectful relationships that foster cultural
responsiveness. In order to do this I will make sure that I take the time to build relationships
with each of my students, as well as fostering relationships from peer to peer. According to
Mayes (2020) “Another important aspect for creating a culture of respect is for teachers to
ensure their classroom is free of humiliation, yelling, berating, intimidation, bullying, and other
aggressive behaviors, not only from students but also from the teacher” (PG 1). I will make sure
that my students understand that any of these behaviors are not accepted. I want to create a
caring environment that is safe for students. Students will be allowed to share when they feel
like they are having this negative experience from other peers, or staff. I will make sure that
students understand that they are all important within the room and that their feelings are
valued. I will make every attempt to maintain a positive relationship in the classroom where
students feel valued and safe. I will also place students desks into groups so they always have
peers to sit with. Peers will be encouraged to interact with one another. Students will be
encouraged to share about their backgrounds, and their cultures within the class. We will
discuss these things as a whole and try to incorporate any cultures within the classroom.

B. Describe two specific instructional practices you could use to reinforce a culturally
responsive learning environment, supporting your description with a professional source.
One specific instructional practice that I could use to reinforce a culturally responsive learning
environment would be to take the time to learn about a students background. Every student
that comes into school comes from a different background. No two students will ever be the
same, despite their cultural background being the same. In order to do this I will send a survey
home to parents to fill out to learn more about their background. Any parent that does not
return this, I will call the parent to try to get this information. I will incorporate anything I learn
