Principle of Charity
Definition:
 We should try to understand ideas before criticizing them. The Principle
of Charity encourages us to interpret others' arguments in their strongest,
most reasonable form before we assess or critique them. This helps avoid
misinterpretations or unfair attacks.
Example:
 Shae said, "It seems that the earth is flat."
Instead of attacking Shae for making a "wrong" statement, we apply the
Principle of Charity by interpreting her statement as a reflection of how the
Earth might look flat from a certain perspective, like from the ground level,
even though scientifically we know the Earth is round.


Cognitive Bias
Definition:
 Cognitive biases are the natural ways we categorize and make sense of the
world around us, but these shortcuts often lead to inaccurate conclusions or
poor judgment. They arise from the way our brain processes information,
and can cause us to make decisions based on flawed reasoning or
assumptions.
Example:
 Thinking people who are good-looking are also smarter, kinder, and
funnier than less attractive people.
This is an example of the "halo effect", where we generalize a person's
positive traits (like physical attractiveness) to other areas of their personality,
even if no evidence supports this.
