1. Where is the location of the breasts vertically and horizontally?: Vertically: extends
from the clavicle and 2nd rib down to the 6th rib
Horizontally: extends from sternum across to posterior axillary line
2. What is included in breast tissue?: - glandular tissue with milk
- lobes and lobules
- ducts
- adipose tissue
- muscle
- ligamentous tissue
3. What is included in the nipple and areola?: - sebaceous gland with sebum (lubricant)
- sweat glands
- accessory areolar glands
- surrounding smooth muscle
4. What should a normal breast tissue feel like upon palpation?: - soft, nodular, or
diffusely lumpy "fibrocystic"
,5. If someone has naturally nodular breasts, should both sides feel like that?: YES,
usually
6. When do the breasts become more tender to palpation?: - before and after menses
7. When is the best time to examine the breasts in relation to menses?: - 5-7 days
after first day of LMP
