Case Analysis and Theoretical Application

Introduction

Vignette #1: Tre- is an interesting case involving a 27-year-old woman of South Asian

descent born with cerebral palsy. She was placed in foster care due to domestic violence at home

and was raised until adulthood by Sally and Craig, who were of European descent. Tre and her

foster parents also lived with another foster child, Sam, who also has developmental disabilities-

cognitive disabilities and blindness. Tre had a solid social and care support system, with Ben, her

favorite and vital person, being her direct support worker for extended periods. Ben underwent a

gender transition, which led to him being fired by Craig as Tre's direct social care worker. Six

months later, Tre's adoptive parents, Sally and Craig, separated and divorced, whereby Craig

abandoned the family and left. Since then, the three family members, Sally, Tre, and Sam, have

continued to lead everyday lives, with Ben returning as Tre's social support worker. They have

also maintained their home and trailer.

This paper examines Tre's case, uncovering the complex intersectionality between social

care, disability, and race, among other social factors. It will include comprehensive theoretical

application, including key concepts and tenets, descriptions, concerns, and limitations. The

theories will also be discussed in relation to the case, identifying the ideas that will guide the

assessment. The report will also provide a critical reflection and comparison of the theories,

determining which is the most suitable to address the case or why they are both excellent fits to

assess the case. Practical skills and interventions from the two theories will also be discussed,

identifying how they can be used in social work. Lastly, it will provide a thorough critical

assessment of the limitations of the attachment theory, highlighting the factors that promote its

application despite its limitations.
