- A tick-borne disease whose parasite attacks and destroys red blood cells
- Sx: asymptomatic, flu-like sx, fatigue, N/V, thrombocytopenia, hemolytic
anemia, elevated liver enzymes, hematuria, proteinurea
- Dx: PCR, blood smear, CBC, LFTs
- Asymptomatic tx: none
- Mild to Moderate: oral atovaquone plus azithromycin
- Severe: IV abx and RBC exchange transfusion
