Energy carrying molecule

Energy stored within bods between phosphates

When releasing energy is converted into ADP via a condensation reaction

Prokaryotes can be either phototrophs, Chemotrophs, autotrophs, heterotrophs

Autotrophs

Most autotrophs are photosynthetic (they create their energy via raw materials)

Heterotrophs

Gains their energy via consumption of other organisms

Fermentation

The breakdown of starch and sugar in anaerobic conditions forming ATP

C6H12O6 + Yeast Zymase = 2C2H5OH + 2CO2
Glucose + Yeast Zymase = Ethyl alcohol + Carbon dioxide

Main product is usually ethanol as shown above

Different alcohols are formed dependent on the source of the sugar
