Unit 16 Assignment 1
Introduction
This report I am going to talk about how different organisations use different cloud services
in their company, I’m going to talk about the characteristics of cloud computing its pros
and cons. Also going to talk about why cloud computing will be best option for on-site
physical servers. And going to talk about different legalisations.
What is Cloud Computing?
Cloud Computing is for to deliver different computer service through the cloud, such as
servers, storage, networking, software, analytics tools, and intelligence over the internet.
Instead of investing and maintaining in physical data centres cloud is the best option for
individuals and organisations to use it because it saves lots of money and they going to pay
what you have used.
Characteristics of cloud computing
On demand self-service:
On demand self-service is one of the characteristics of the cloud computing because it
allows the user to access and manage their computing resources more easily, in cloud
computing they can do this by managing the storage, processing power and the
applications, whenever they need them they can change it without requiring any help and
support from the service provider. The advantage of using this is flexibility because it allows
the users to change and adapt based on their needs, which will save time for them, and it
will make resource management more efficient. But, the drawback of this cloud be
unnecessary costs because the users can easily access the resources, therefore they may
end up using more resources which cloud led them to pay more money for cloud services.
An example cloud be Google Drive, Google Drive have different plans so the users based on
their needs they can subscribe to a plan which they needed and Google Drive it’s comes up
with every Android phones so it’s let the users to back up their photos, videos, files
automatically. Here are the plans of Google Drive based on the user’s needed they can
choose different options:

,Ubiquitous access: In cloud computing the ubiquitous access means the users can access
the cloud services and their data from anywhere in the world, as long as they have access to
internet. These types of features allow the users to work remotely, share file and work
together with other people more easily. And because of using cloud service, the user can
access the resources through different devices such as smartphones, laptops, PC, or tablets.
Advantage of having ubiquitous access in cloud computing is allow more flexibility. By
allowing the users and businesses to be productive because they don’t need to work from
one place, which means they can access the system from anywhere, for example Google
Drive because you can access your files from any device, as long as you have an internet
connection, weather you change place you will able to still access your file, photos and
videos. But the drawback of ubiquitous access is the internet connection if the internet
connection is slow or unavailable they users may face problem when they try to access their
resources. For example, if you don’t have internet access or the internet is slow, you can’t
access your files and photos.
Resource pooling: In cloud computing resource pooling means users can share the
resources like storage, processing power, memory throughout multiple users. These
resources will be given to other users based on their needs meaning you can distribute the
system as the needs of different uses which will help to entre system to be more efficient.
The advantages of resource pooling are it helps the resources of be use efficiently because
many users share resources through the system. So, they could provide they can keep
running their system at a high level when the lots of users using the system. For example, if
a New City College stuff members needs a lot of processing power and the students need
less computer power, the college cloud provider can balance the power out. Having this
type of flexibility helps businesses to grow and make changes without spending money on
different component.
But disadvantages of resource pooling are that performance, for example, New city college
can have impact due to many users being using and sharing the same resources at a time.
There may be sometimes when the demand gets too high of the servers, which will cause
users to face slow performance or server crashes. Therefore, the users might end up facing
lots of problems while they are working.
Measured service: This means that users will only pay for what they use, it similar to utility
services like electricity bill. The cloud provider tracks the usage of the users and
organisations, like how much they use storage, processing power and data analytics tools
based on that they charge the cost.
The advantage of this is the cost efficiency, for example a small business using cloud service
for file storage only, so they will pay the amount of space they will use, if they use less
storage they will pay less and this will help the business to manage their budgets more
easily.
However, a disadvantage of this can happen when all of sudden usage of using the server
increase, for example, an e-commerce company during a big sale, their site might

, experience heavy traffic, which will lead to a significant increase in server and data usage.
This type of sudden urge can result unexpected high cost for the company which might not
been planned for them to spend that amount of money for the servers.
Rapid Elasticity: Rapid Elasticity in cloud computing, helps the companies to increase and
decrease their resource urge based on what they need at the moment. This means that
businesses will pay what they use, which will be cost effective for the company. For
example, if an online shopping website during a big sales like Black Friday, they give huge
deal, at that time the website traffic will be higher but it will for short period of time, with
rapid elasticity, they can increase the website server bandwidth so the user don’t
experience any crashes. So, advantage of rapid elasticity is the cost efficiency because the
company will only pay for the resources they use. But disadvantage of this that if the cloud
provider doesn’t have enough resources during a busy period of website, this they can’t
provide the resource for the company’s website to run at high traffic and this cloud end up
effecting the users of the website, like slower loading times and crashes. Also, because the
cloud provider will have higher demand from many businesses, they need to invest more on
the servers and security, although this cloud let the business to pay more to the cloud
providers, but this will help them to increase their business growth.
Different cloud technology models
Software as a service (SaaS): Software as a service (SaaS) in cloud computing in model,
where the applications get hosted in online by a provider to access these application more
easily and made it available for all kind of users to use over the internet, often through
providing a subscription to access these services. Isted of downloading and installing the
application on their devices, users can easily access through a web browser. Therefore, the
users, they don’t need to know how to install the application and they don’t need to worry
about the maintenance of the application, everything will be done by the provider form all
kind of updates, security to support, they will do everything.
For example, of SaaS is Microsoft 365, which is include applications like, Outlook, Word
Document, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneDrive. Business and normal users can use these
applications from any device as long as they have internet access, making it highly accessible
for remote work. The advantage of SaaS is flexibility because the users can easily share
documents, work together in real-time, and access their data from anywhere.
But a drawback of SaaS is it can’t provide consistent performance, like for always best
performance you need reliable internet connection. If the internet connection is not that
strong and unavailable, then the users cannot access the software. For example, if a team is
working together on a shared Microsoft Word document and the internet suddenly stops
working, they will lose access to the document until the connection returns. This means
these applications are not useful for the people who have slow or unreliable internet access.
Platform as a service (PaaS): Platform as a Service (PaaS) in cloud computing is a model
where a company will provide hardware and software tools to create a software application.
Therefore, In PaaS the developer doesn’t need to manage anything, like servers, storage, or
network because all this will be providing the company. Instead of this, they focus on
