5. What is one criticism of the Atkinson and Shiffrin Model made by

Baddeley? Answer: - Baddeley argued that the Atkinson and Shittrin Model was not in-depth

enough in regards to the "short term memory." He argued that A&S made it a unitary system, where al

of the sensory memory that was encoded was stored in a single place in the memory system, and

changed it to a working memory system where the Central Executive allocates sensory memory to either

the phonological loop or the visit-spatial sketchpad based on the type of information.

6. What is the serial positioning effect? What is primary, recency, and

which is more consistent? Answer: The serial positioning ettect is the tendency for people

to remember the beginning of a list (primacy) and the end of a list (recency) better than they do the

middle section. The reason that this occurs is because people tend to pay greater attention and

actively rehearse information at the beginning of a list, while also remembering the things towards the

end of the list as they have experienced less decay than the middle. If a task is added after the list,

people will still tend to remember the beginning, but the time that it takes to do the task allows for

more decay to occur and decreases the recency abilities

7. What is the basic summary of the Sperling Whole-Partial Report

test? Answer: Sperling tested subjects using 4x3 grids of letters (12 total) and would ask

participants to recite the letters that they saw based on 2 conditions. The Whole Report condition

occurred when the subject was to report as many of the letters as they could out of the entire 12
