This is an open-book examination. Please sign the Honesty

You can use a PC, laptop, tablet/ipad or smart phone for this
examination. Your answers can be typed and saved as a pdf or
Word document. It can also be handwritten, but then you must scan
it as one pdf document (maximum size 10MB). Please do not use any
other files than Word or PDF.

password, because then we cannot do the marking on the

Please follow the instructions about how to upload your answers on
myExams. This is the only way of submitting your examination
script and you will NOT be able to email or send it by any other
means directly to the examiner.
The Invigilator App (Exam Access Code: c8611366)
The QR code is on the first page of this exam paper. You should scan
the QR Code (or use the exam access code) as soon as you have
downloaded your question paper. You can only scan the QR code for a
limited time after the commencement of the examination and it should
therefore be scanned as soon as possible to start the invigilation. Please
take note that you can scan the QR code only one time. Make sure you
are ready to start the assessment when you scan the QR Code. Keep the
Invigilator app all the time open on your cell phone during the
assessment. You are not allowed to leave or minimise the application.
At the end of the examination, you can upload The Invigilator file once
you have completed all the other aspects of the examination (i.e.,
uploaded your examination script). That can be done after the 30
minutes you have to upload your examination script. If you experience
technical difficulties on The Invigilator App, contact the technical
helpdesk via WhatsApp on 073 505 8273. When communicating your
query, it is recommended that you send a screen shot of your screen in
order to expediate the resolution of the issue.

This paper consists of two sections. Both of them are
compulsory. Section 1 includes 25 individual, short

questions, while Section 2 consists of two, short
discussion questions based on a case study.


SECTION 1: INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS
Answer each of the following twenty-five (25)
questions. Each question counts for two (2) marks.
Write down only the answer without any further
discussion (for example, if question 19 is: ‘When is the
ideal time for negotiations to commence?’, the answer
is only: 19. When a mutually hurting stalemate exists).

encapsulated in a number of theoretical frameworks.
Which one of the following statements is
irreconcilable with these frameworks?
• States tend to concentrate on their national
interests and it means that they want to
influence a balance of power in their favour.
• Constitutional institutions and processes
involve political parties, which are by nature in
competition or conflict with each other, and
make politics prone to conflict.
• Gender relations are traditionally regarded as
private and therefore not political. More recent
views are that power relationships within a
family are also political, and their contested
