Mr Nickolaus Ludick Fouché appointed Global & Local
Investments Advisors (GLIA) under a discretionary investment
mandate to open and manage investment accounts for him at
Investec. The mandate allowed certain communications
(including email) but required that instructions be genuine and

mandate. In August 2016 Fouché’s personal email account was
compromised. Fraudsters sent a series of emails, purporting to
be from Fouché (including a closing instruction and payment

emails and caused substantial transfers to be made to third
