ASSIGNMENT 2 SEMESTER 2 2025
UNIQUE NO.
DUE DATE: SEPTEMBER 2025
, Assignment 2 – TRL3707: Logistics Activities
Question 1.1
Discuss participants that may influence transport at PepsiCo and explain how
these participants might influence transport at PepsiCo.
(6 marks theory, 6 marks application)
Theory
In logistics, several participants influence transport decisions within a supply chain:
1. Suppliers – They determine delivery schedules, packaging standards, and lead
times, directly affecting transport planning.
2. Transport service providers – Include carriers (road, rail, sea, and air freight
companies) who provide capacity, speed, and cost flexibility.
3. Government and regulatory bodies – Influence transport through policies,
tariffs, safety standards, and cross-border regulations.
4. Customers/retailers – Their demand patterns, location, and service-level
requirements shape transport routes and frequency.
5. Third-party logistics (3PL) providers – Offer outsourcing of transport and
warehousing services to optimise efficiency.
6. Technology providers – Supply digital platforms for route optimisation, vehicle
tracking, and inventory visibility, improving transport efficiency.
Application to PepsiCo
Suppliers: PepsiCo sources raw materials (e.g., sugar, flavouring) locally in
SADC where possible. Their timeliness affects PepsiCo’s ability to plan transport
schedules and avoid bottlenecks.
