Compensated Shock (Severity) - SBP is WNL
Signs of inadequate tissue perfusion
Compensatory Mechanisms - 1. Increased HR- tachycardia
2. Increased SVR
Skin: cold, pale, molted, diaphoretic
Peripheral circulation: delayed capillary refill
Pulses: decreased peripheral pulses, narrow pulse pressure (inc. DBP)
3. Increases renal ans splanchnic vascular resistance
Kidney: oliguria
Intestine: vomiting, ileus (blockage of bowel)
Hypotensive Shock (Severity) - Decreased SBP
Change in LOC due to dec. brain perfusion
Late finding in shock -> sign of impending cardiac arrest (along with bradycardia
and weak central pulses)
Can appear early in septic shock due to vasodilation and dec. SVR
Hypovolemic Shock - Most common one in children
Result of absolute deficiency of intravascular blood volume
Tx with fluid boluses exceeding IV deficit
