5-2 Final Project Milestone Two: Introduction, Outline, and Bibliography

The Battle of Gettysburg is known as the bloodiest battle of the United States Civil

War. This battle was the cause of two motivated armies marching towards each other until

they ultimately met in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle went on for three days until the

Confederate army surrendered with a total of 58,000 fatalities accounting for both sides.

This battle was seen as an opportunity to revitalize the morale of the Union cause and

Abaraham Lincoln read his Gettysburg Address during the ceremony for dedicating the

area as the cemetery for the soldiers that died during the battle. The question I will be

answering throughout my research analysis is, why was the Battle of Gettysburg

considered the turning point for the Civil War? The Battle of Gettysburg today is a symbol

of fighting for morals, although, to those that were present during the battle they were

fighting for their lives. This research allows us to envision what the soldiers may have

experienced while unknowingly changing the course of the war and country.
