Types of media

There are many different types of media that companies use, such as local, national,
international, regional. Businesses also promote their products/services using the internet,
digital media, Terrestrial, Satellite media and specialist media.
Local - There are many different types of media that companies use to promote. One of
them is local. Local media is used to communicate with the people in the local area. It covers
events that are based in a small local area, and their target audience/market is in that
specific area. Small businesses tend to use local media as they are only based in the small
local area, so their target market/audience is people that are in that local area. Some
examples of local media include local newspapers. Local newspapers include news about
the local events; small businesses would use them to advertise their products/services to
help attract the people from the local area.
An example of a local newspaper is the Lancashire Telephone. Another example of local
media is local radio, these cover stories from the local communities, something that people
in that same area will be interested in. Many small businesses also advertise on local radio
to gain attention from the people in the local area. Other local media can include leaflets
that are delivered to people locally. Apple has used many different types of media to
promote when they released the IPhone X. Apple is a global business, so when they released
the IPhone X, they did not advertise on local media such as local newspapers, because their
target audience are people all over the world and not just in one local area. However, Apple
could have promoted the IPhone X on local newspapers such as the Lancashire Telegraph to
attract people from local area Lancashire. The advertisement would be focused on the area,
such as involving the local Apple stores in which people are able to buy the IPhone X, so that
way Apple will able to connect more with their audience.
National - Other types of media include the national media. This is used to communicate to
people nationally, and cover events that would be an interest to the national public. Just like
how local media covers news about the local events, that how the national media covers
news within that specific nation or country, such as England, Wales and Scotland. For
example, newspapers such as The Daily Telegraph, Daily Mirror, The Times and the Daily
Express cover news about Britain for the people that live in England and will be interested.
Companies that operate nationally or globally would use the national media to advertise,
such as McDonalds, Coca-Cola etc. National media also includes television. There are many
different types of channels that people can view in England and companies can advertise on.
Some popular channels include the Channel 4, ITV, SKY etc.
Businesses that want to advertise to people in England pay these channels to run their
adverts so that they can get exposure from people living in England. When they released the
IPhone X, Apple promoted their products a lot nationally, such as through using national TV
channels for example ITV, Channel 4 etc. Apple has advertised their IPhone X on these
channels when they came out by paying them, because their target market include people
in these nations such as England, Wales and Scotland, as well as other nations around the
world. Apple also advertised on national newspapers such as The Guardian and the Daily
telegraph, to attract people in England to buy the IPhone X. Apple can advertise
internationally, but they advertise separately nationally, this allows them to change their
