Kinematics

Terminology + Key Information

Displacement [vector quantity]: distance travelled from fixed/original position in a
specified direction

Velocity [vector quantity]: rate of change of displacement

Distance [scalar quantity]: total length covered by moving object regardless of
direction

Speed [scalar quantity]: rate of change of distance

Acceleration [vector quantity]: Rate of change in velocity

SUVAT equations - when acceleration is constant:

1st - No displacement [s]
v=u+at
→ Derived from acceleration equation

2nd - No acceleration [a]
1
s= (u+ v)t
2
→ Area of trapezium - from velocity-time graph [area beneath the graph]
