TASK 2 2
A. Determining Student Information
• Individual Students’ Learning Preferences: To determine the learning preferences
of each student in my classroom, I would do many observations throughout the school
year. My teammates and I (we teach second grade) do not start the academic
curriculum until week three of school. We focus on social and emotional learning to
begin the year, and review of first grade concepts. This allows us to focus on getting to
know our students’ backgrounds and other important information. One of these is
learning preferences, and we do this by taking detailed notes on each student. We plan
a lot of activities that give students choice in the first few weeks of school, to see what
learning preferences they lean toward the most. Some examples are seeing if students
prefer to listen to an audiobook or to hold a physical copy while reading. Another
example is if students prefer to work by themselves, in a group, or partner setting to
complete tasks. Another aspect is seeing if students prefer to sit, stand, or use flexible
seating while they learn. We continue this process throughout the school-year, as our
students may change their learning preferences. Participating in observations allows
me to include student learning preferences in my lessons.
• Intelligences: To measure student’s intelligences, I would perform a combination of
collecting observations and data throughout the year. I will observe students during the
learning process to see which kinds of intelligences they hold. I will also collect data
from assessments such as exit tickets, formative and summative assessments to
determine what kinds of intelligences my students hold. Students may hold more than
one type of intelligence, such as a combination of bodily/kinesthetic and interpersonal.
This helps me know where my students are strongest, and what areas they may need to
work on.
