Assignment 3
Semester 2
2025
, Safety Management III B
Question 1: Explain how a corporate's image can be affected by accidents and injuries.
(10)
A company’s image is a critical intangible asset, as it reflects how customers,
employees, investors, and the wider public view the organization. Workplace accidents
and injuries can negatively influence this image in several ways:
1. Public Perception: News of workplace incidents spreads rapidly through
traditional and social media. If workers are harmed due to unsafe conditions, the
company may be perceived as negligent or indifferent to employee welfare.
2. Loss of Trust: Clients and consumers expect businesses to act responsibly.
Serious accidents may cause stakeholders to lose confidence and reconsider
their association with the company.
3. Legal and Financial Consequences: Litigation, compensation claims,
regulatory fines, and penalties often follow workplace accidents, which signal
weak compliance and harm the company’s reputation.
4. Employer Branding: A poor safety record discourages potential applicants and
may demotivate existing employees, reducing the company’s ability to attract and
retain top talent.
5. Investor Confidence: Shareholders may question the management’s ability to
safeguard the business, resulting in decreased confidence and possible declines
in share value.
6. Community Relations: Accidents that harm the surrounding environment or
local communities (such as industrial spills or construction site hazards) can
erode community goodwill and the organization’s social license to operate.
