PLEASE EXPLAIN WHICH TEACHING METHODS YOU FEEL IS BEST TO USE WHEN YOU QUALIFY AS A
TEACHER AND WHY?
I would personally use the ECLECTIC APPROACH: Once you qualify to become a
teacher, like many other teachers, it is best to use a combination of these
methods that are available ( Teacher vs Learner, Audio Lingual, TPR( Total
Physical Response), Silent Way, Suggestopedia, Grammar Translation, Direct
Method, CLT(Communicative Language Teaching) ). You will notice that these
different teaching methods are exactly what you need to be a good teacher.
WHY? A great teacher is one who can engage students, elicit information
and allow students, through practice amongst themselves, to achieve the
desired outcome.
Below further explains each method within the ECLECTIC APPROACH:
TEACHER VS STUDENT: This is where teachers often create good learning
environments- always changing and keeping students interested. This method
creates good relationships between students and teachers, very imperative
for learning process to be enhanced.
AUDIO-LINGUAL: The drill sergeant calling out a sentence and the rest of
troops repeating e.g:
teacher:” I don’t know what I’ve been told”
students:” I don’t know what I’ve been told”
teacher:” English is the best, I am told”
students: English is the best, I am told”
TOTAL PHYSICAL RESPONSE (TPR): this method is best used for beginner level,
rather than advanced level of learning English. This approach/ method should
be used in conjunction with another method, as it is not sufficient to teach
English, this method makes students act out the language and it helps them
attain meaning.
SILENT WAY: TPR and the silent way is used because the teacher uses visual
aids (e.g. flashcards) to communicate with learners, thus allowing
learners/students to do all the talking. They learn by doing and by practicing.
