Comparison of retail outlets - M1

Comparison of retail outlets, Similarities and differences and why they are there

One stop
One stop is a convenient store. ‘’One Stop Stores Limited is a retail
convenience business with over 770 company operated neighbourhood stores
and 160 franchisees across England, Wales and Scotland.’’ They stock
everyday essentials, because they are near houses in a local neighbourhood,
so people are able to purchase those essentials quicker and that they do not
have to go to a larger supermarket. ‘’For added convenience many stores
provide additional services including free cash machines, Post Office, PayPoint,
Lottery and mobile electronic top-up’’ They do not carry lots of different
products because they do not have enough storage for them, they do not
store lots of fresh fruit and veg because they do not get many customers, so
the and fruit will be wasted, which will waste a lot of money, so they carry a lot of tin products and
everyday essentials. They do not have parking because most people just walk there from the local
neighbourhood so most people do not come in cars and they also do not have toilets for the customers,
because if the customers are just from a local area, they can easily go back home If they need to use the
toilet. One stop only has baskets and not trolleys because most people just come for a couple of items, so
they will not need a trolley, as their items can fit in a basket. They employ only a couple of staff as they
do not get many customers, the staff they have can do multiple jobs, one employee can both stock
shelves and serve customers, because they do not get many customers so they will have enough to do
other responsibilities than only serving the customers, The store also does not make enough money for a
large number of staff. One stop is branded with the colours of Tesco
Tesco express
Tesco express are slightly larger shops than the one stop, tend to find
them in town and built up areas, this is different from Tesco one stop,
who are only found in local areas. They attract quite a lot of workers to
buy readymade meals/sandwiches, because workers do not have a lot of
time, so they can quickly go into Tesco express and buy a readymade
meal. So they sell a lot of these type of stuff, workers can also nip in
there to get stuff for dinner or tea, they also sell other things that
workers may need to buy such as cigarettes. They do not carry much
fresh fruit and veg as they do not guarantee customers so the fruit and
veg will be wasted, which is a similarity with one stop, who also do not sell do not sell fruit and veg as
they do not get many customers. Tesco express do not have trolleys, they only have baskets so customers
only purchase a few things, which is a similarity with the Tesco one stop. Tesco express do have toilets In
their store, as they operate in towns and built up areas, so people may need to use the toilet when they
are out and about shopping, this is different from the one stop, who do not have toilets as they operate
locally and is a similarity with the Tesco extra, who do have toilets as they are largest stores. The prices in
Tesco express are slightly higher than in larger stores such as Tesco Extra, this is because they have fewer
customers, so they want the customers that they get to pay more so they are able to make a much higher
profit margin, and also to cover the costs of their location. This is a similarity with the Tesco one stop,
who also sells products for a higher price compared to Tesco extra.
Tesco extra
Tesco extra are big super stores and they are open 24 hours a day, found in towns and cities which are a
similarity with the Tesco express who are also found in Towns. Because they need a large amount of
