Fitness - ANS-The ability to meet the demands of the environment
Health - ANS-A complete state of mental, physical and social well being, not simply the absence
of disease or infirmity
Agility - ANS-The ability to change direction at speed
Balance - ANS-The ability to keep the body stable, whether still, or moving in a different shape
Coordination - ANS-The ability to use two or more parts of the body at the same time
Reaction time - ANS-The time it takes to respond to a stimulus
Speed - ANS-The ability to move all or parts of the body as quickly as possible
Timing - ANS-The ability to coincide movements in relation to external factors e.g. reaction time
and coordination
Power - ANS-Combination of speed and strength
Functions of the skeleton - ANS-Protects vital organs
Movement at joints
Blood cell production
Support for muscles
Immovable joints - ANS-Fixed and allow no movement e.g. the coccyx
Slightly movable joints - ANS-A small amount of movement occurs and have gaps between the
bones usually filled with cartilage e.g. bones in the vertebral column
Freely movable joints - ANS-Designed for movement. They are synovial joints which are
designed to reduce wear and tear, absorb shock, and reduce friction e.g. elbow
Function of cartilage - ANS--Shock absorber
-Reduces friction between bones
-Cushions the joint
Function of ligaments - ANS--Attach bone to bone
-Stabilise joint
-Strong and elastic
