Title: Equilibrium Reactions
Purpose: To study equilibrium reactions with two experiments 1. Determine the equilibrium
constant Kc and 2. Study LeChatelier’s Principle
Procedure:
1. Add 10mL acetic acid and 10mL propyl alcohol in a small flask using a pipette. Mix well
2. Take 1mL pipette sample from flask and place in beaker. Add in about 25mL of water
and a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator.
3. Titrate with sodium hydroxide in buret until color change. Record mL of sodium
hydroxide added.
4. Add sulfuric acid catalyst to small flask.
5. Take out 1mL sample and place into beaker.
6. Add about 25mL water and a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator.
7. Titrate with sodium hydroxide until color change. Record mL of sodium hydroxide added.
8. Heat small flask with bunsen burner with condenser above for an hour.
9. Take 1mL pipette sample from flask and place in beaker. Add in about 25mL of water
and a few drops of phenolphthalein indicator.
10. Titrate with sodium hydroxide in buret until color change. Record mL of sodium
hydroxide added.
1. Adding the iron plus three which is yellow to the clear thiocyanate ion creates a dark red
hexacyanoiron solution. Adding more clear thiocyanate to the solution.
2. Add blue tetra aquocopper to Cl- which turns the solution green. Add more CL- and note
change.
3. Mix yellow chromate with H3O. Add additional H3O and note the change.
Temperature
1. Add pink hexaaquacobalt to Cl- and heat in test tube.
2. Shake while heating to keep it even.
3. Note change in color.
