1.1 Visual Arts Activity Description

Activity Title: “My Dream House – Building with Recyclables”

Description:
In this Visual Arts activity, Grade 5 learners will use recycled materials such as
cereal boxes, cardboard, bottle caps, paper scraps, and tin cans to create a
miniature model of their ―dream home.‖ The teacher will begin by briefly introducing
the concept of using recycled materials in art and discussing the importance of
environmental awareness (±5 minutes). Learners will then be instructed to design
and build their own 3D houses using the materials available in the classroom (±20
minutes). They will cut, fold, glue, and decorate their models creatively, using their
imagination to include doors, windows, and unique design features.

The last 5 minutes will be used for a quick reflection where a few learners will
present their models and explain what they created, linking their designs to
sustainability and creativity.

 Creative problem-solving skills through the use of limited materials
 Visual literacy and design awareness
 Fine motor skills and spatial planning
 An understanding of sustainability and environmental responsibility
CAPS Alignment:
