1. I found it slightly difficult trying to remain objective when analyzing the
advertisements I chose. This is because I agree with some of the messages
that these advertisements are trying to convey. NOT saying I agree
with all feminist ideas, and I wouldn't even identify myself as a quote,
unquote "feminist," by any means. However, I do agree with some of those
messages, but only the ones that can be backed by evidence and facts. As
an example, I am going to give y'all a few statistics on the gap in wages by
gender in certain industries.
Industry-Specific Gaps: (Smith, 2022)
Finance and Insurance Industry: Women earn .77 cents for every
dollar earned by men. (Smith, 2022)
Agencies and Consultancies: Women earn .83 cents for every
dollar earned by men. (Smith, 2022)
Healthcare: Women earn .86 cents for every dollar earned by men. (Smith,
2022)
Transportation and Warehousing: Women earn .87 cents for every
dollar earned by men. (Smith, 2022)
Nonprofits: Women earn .88 cents for every dollar earned by men. (Smith,
2022)
In private, for-profit companies, women earn about .78 cents for every dollar
earned by men. In government agencies and nonprofit organization, women
earn about .85 cents for every dollar earned by men. (U.S Government
Accountability Office [GAO], 2022).
Overall Pay Gap: On average, women earn about .84 cents for every dollar
earned by men. (Haan, 2024). This gap is even wider for black women, who
earn .64 cents and Latina women, earning .55 cents for every dollar earned
by white men. (Haan, 2024).
