Task 1
A1. The classroom I envision myself teaching is a classroom of 18 to 20 kindergarten students. The
classroom will be inclusive and have some students with mild exceptionalities. Children at this level
are still building foundational literacy skills. Center time will be incorporated into the literacy time
period during each day. Center time will allow small groups to work together on different aspects of
literacy while I work with a small group that need extra help. One center would be for a small group
to read with myself or a paraprofessional. Other centers would include activities for sight words,
sensory bins, using props to retell stories, and tablet activities. Children at this age have a lot of
energy and will need ways to burn some energy to be able to focus on activities and learning. Short
periods of stretching and “brain” breaks will be incorporated into the daily instruction. These periods
will come between activities or between subjects. Brain breaks will be written on large popsicle
sticks and placed in a jar. Each day a student will be able to pick which brain break activity we will be
doing for the day.
A2. As the classroom manager, I am committed to providing all students with a safe and welcoming
learning environment. It is my duty to provide a positive atmosphere in which all children are
encouraged to express themselves and live up to their highest potential. Young children are led by a
good example. I will treat everyone with respect and kindness just as I expect all my students to
respect each other in the same way.
Kindergarten children are just starting their educational journey and parents are just sending
their children off to school for the first time. I plan to keep open lines of communication with
families. Young children do not always articulate their problems, worries, or concerns. Parents can
offer great incite into their children, allowing the teacher to get to know the child better and
eventually making a connection.
The classroom I envision will be inclusive. Acceptance of all abilities and disabilities will be a top
priority. Instruction will be tailored to the needs of individual students. Providing all students with
lessons and activities that meet their needs will help them excel towards their academic goals.

The small shelving unit located adjacent to the door will have hand sanitized and tissues located
on the top shelf. On the next shelf will be three plastic bins. As students enter the room these are the
bins in which they will place their library books, papers from parents, and/or their take home folders.
Each bin will be labeled and included a picture of each item that belongs in that bin. Students will then
proceed to their assigned table. There is adequate room between tables and other furniture for the
students to be able to spread out to do brain breaks and stretches.
During literacy center time, students will rotate throughout the room is small groups. Some may
be in the reading nook area, while others may use the supplies and materials from the low-level cubbies
and do center time at the large circular center table or at one of the smaller tables near the cubbies.
There are two conference tables that will be used for smaller group reading and writing guidance. I will
sit on one side of the table while no more than four students at a time will work with me. There are two
tables to allow a second smaller group led by a co-teacher or paraprofessional during our literacy time
period. The reading nook will have various seating options where students will be able to read a book or
use an iPad and headphones to do a reading activity. No more than six students will be allowed in this
area. Rules and our stop light will be posted on the far side of the white board closer to the door. The
bulletin board behind the conference table will be used for calendar, weather, birthdays, and special
announcements or to display projects.

The layout of the classroom will not change for different activities. For the most part this set up will be
ideal for different subject area activities. Temporarily the smaller tables near the cubby unit may be
moved if that area is needed for a special larger group project or science experiment. If needed the
