1.1 Understanding of the Domains of Development
ANSWER
Cognitive Domain
Cognitive development is about how a child learns, thinks, understands, solves
problems, and remembers information. It involves mental processes such as
attention, memory, comprehension, problem-solving, and decision-making.
Communication and language are essential to this process. Each child has a unique
way of thinking and learning, influenced by both their natural abilities (nature) and
their environment (nurture). Healthy cognitive development helps a child grow
mentally and understand the world better.

Physical Domain
The physical domain focuses on the body’s development, including visible traits like
height, eye colour, and gender, as well as motor abilities like walking, balance, and
coordination. It also involves the use of the five senses to explore the environment. A
child’s physical health affected by nutrition, exercise, or illness can either support or
hinder their overall development. Physical disabilities may limit interaction with the
environment and delay development.
