QUESTION 1: Case Study – Rural School Context (15 Marks)
a. How would you introduce the value and purpose of PE to the learners and
staff? (4)
As a new PE teacher, I would first speak to both the learners and the staff during a
school assembly or a staff meeting. I would explain that Physical Education is not just
about running or playing games—it helps students stay healthy, build teamwork, and
improve their focus in class. I would tell them that PE gives everyone a chance to learn
how to take care of their bodies, manage stress, and enjoy being active. I’d also
highlight how being physically active can help learners perform better in their other
subjects because it helps with concentration and energy levels.
b. Design an outline for a first term PE programme, considering your constraints.
(6)
Since we have very little equipment and limited space, I would focus on simple, body-
weight activities and games that can be done without special tools. Here's what my first
term plan might look like:
Week 1-2: Introduction to PE, warm-up exercises, stretching, basic fitness games.
Week 3-4: Teamwork activities like relay races using stones or sticks.
Week 5-6: Circuit training with body-weight exercises (squats, push-ups, jumping
jacks).
Week 7-8: Traditional games (like “morabaraba” or “3 tins”) that need little or no
equipment.
Week 9-10: Fun mini-competitions and reflection on what they have learned.
c. Justify two teaching strategies you would use to promote participation and
motivation. (5)
