Validity - answer In contrast to this the validity means the extent to which an instrument
measures the attributes of a concept accurately. Validity reflects the true accuracy of
the yielded results and findings.

Types of validity - answer-Content Validity- does the instrument have
an appropriate amount of questions
related to each construct that the tool is
trying to measure. Usually reviewed by a panel of researchers. ( subset of content
validity is face validity ( Hint : if the study has only face /content validity then you would
not appraise the study as the study with strong psychometric property)

2-Criterion-Related Validity-Determines the
relationship between an instrument and
an external criterion
1. Concurrent validity
2. Predictive validity

3. Construct related validity

Construct validity - answerConstruct Validity-extent to which a test
measures a theoretical construct or trait
- Hypothesis Testing Approach
- Convergent validity
- Discriminant validity/Divergent validity
- Contrasted Groups Approach
- Factor Analysis ( statistical analysis)

Identify ways in which the construct validity can be strengthened? - answer

What is the difference between convergent validity and divergent validity ? -
answerConvergent validity is examined by determining the relationship between two
instruments the measure the same concepts such as 2 sclales to measure depression.
The correlation should be positive or higher than 0.4 or higher to strengthen the validity
of the sclales.

Divergent or discriminate validity measures the opposite concept from an existing
instrument. The correlation should be -0.4 or negative to strengthen the validity of the
instrument.
