,Introduction
I am going to talk about the topic of a
balanced diet. A balanced diet is ver
important as your body gets the
nutrients that it requires.
, Carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are very important in the diet, as they are
the body's main function of fuel.
Carbohydrates are also an important source of energy as
we get the most energy from these ( we get 65% energy).
If we have too much carbohydrates than we can gain
weight, but if we don’t have enough you could become
constipated and have weight loss.
Some food examples of carbohydrates are : chips, fries
(not healthy), white or whole wheat bread, white or whole
wheat pasta, bran cereal, crisps (not healthy).
There are two types of carbohydrates, complex and simple:
Simple carbohydrates digest quicker and because of this,
they release energy quicker, some examples are donuts,
fries, crisps, white wheat bread, white wheat pasta.
Complex carbohydrates on the other hand are different as
they are digested slower, and therefore release energy
much slower, they tend to have more fibre and are a better
option of carbohydrates, some examples are : sweet
potato, wholegrain pasta, wholegrain bread (brown bread),
as some complex carbohydrates tend to contain more
fibre, which is good to prevent constipation, IBS, heart
disease and some types of cancer.
