N 580 - week 2 chapter 2 & 4
research questions ,
hypothesis, clinical q &
Theoretical frameworks of
research.
concepts - Answer: In common usage, the word theory is often used to signify a conjecture, an opinion,
a speculation, or a hypothesis. When research is guided by a theoretical framework, the theory guides
the research process throughout its entirety. Theories are composed of concepts and the relationships
between concepts. Concepts are the building blocks of theories.
concept - Answer: concept is a description of the event or the situation.
concepts are the building blocks of theories.
models - Answer: usually show relationships between concepts.
are used in qualitative research
Not proven
Theory - Answer: A theory provides an explanation of hos certain concepts or abstract ideas are related
to each other and serves as the basis for explaining events or predicting future events.
Theoretical frame works
conceptual frame works - Answer: Theoretical frameworks are used when the study describes a model it
is called a theoretical framework.
Conceptual frameworks are when a researcher uses what is known as concept with out no models. it is
not itself testable.
- A theoretical framework presents a broad, general explanation of the relationships between the
concepts of interest. It is based on a single existing theory.
, -A conceptual framework is not based upon a single theory but links concepts from multiple theories,
from previous research results, or from the investigator's own experiences.
Hypothesis - Answer: -hypothesis is a declarative statement about the relationships between 2 or more
variables that suggest the answer to the research question.
-converts a research problem in to a declarative statement
***3. characteristics of the hypothesis:
1. causal relationship( relationship statement)
2. test-ability
3. Consistent with the findings or defined by the theory based.
Directional hypothesis
Non directional hypothesis - Answer: Directional hypothesis:
specifies the expected direction of the relationship
between the IV and DV.
Non directional hypothesis:
Specifies only that the relationship exits between the 2 variables, it does not say + /-
***3 important elements of hypothesis - Answer: 1. variables of the hypothesis
2. population being studied
3. Predicted outcome of the hypothesis
hypothesis - Answer: 1. Research hypothesis : scientific ( statement about expected relationship of
variables)
2. statistical hypothesis ( null hypothesis)- states there is not relationship between the dependent and
independent variables.
independent variable X - Answer: the variable that has presumed effect on the dependent variable
