Theoretical Case Conceptualization
When creating a treatment plan, counselors must understand the client's specific situation
through a theoretical perspective. A personality theory should be applied to explain the client's
presentation, which becomes the conceptualization. From this conceptualization, a counselor can
develop a treatment plan using theoretical approaches linked to the personality theory as interventions.
In reviewing Lucy’s case, a treatment theory will be detailed, including its application to Lucy’s
situation. This involves explaining how the theory addresses problem formulation, the change process,
and the use of its therapeutic techniques as intervention and prevention strategies. Additionally, there
, will be a review of how I would tackle mental health, medical, legal, and substance issues exhibited by
the client through the chosen counseling theory, while prioritizing Lucy's needs and establishing
agreed-upon outcomes, measures, and strategies.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) has gained popularity among those dealing with stress and
alcohol-related challenges. This therapy is grounded in the concept that thoughts, feelings, and
behaviors are interconnected. By altering negative thought patterns, Lucy can enhance her emotional
responses and behavior, leading to healthier results. CBT posits that negative thinking can cause
emotional distress and unhelpful behaviors (American Psychological Association, 2017; National
Library of Medicine, 2022). By identifying these patterns, Lucy can learn to challenge and modify her
thoughts and behaviors regarding her engineering school stressors and alcohol dependence, aiding in
stress management and sleep. This transformation promotes healthier coping mechanisms and better
emotional regulation. A key technique in CBT is cognitive restructuring, which will assist Lucy in
