INTRODUCING THE RTI PROCESS
Benchmark - Data-Driven Intervention Decisions
Part 1 Collaborating to Make Intervention Decisions
First, a summary and analysis: Student 1 Collins' percentile rankings have been going up
steadily over the last nine weeks of intervention, but they are still below the goal 50th
percentile. This means that the current solution is working, but you might need to make some
more changes to get to your goal.
Questions to Ask: Is the current rate of growth fast enough to get to the 50th percentile in the
time allotted?
Are there specific decoding or phonics skills that could be stressed more to speed up progress?
Steps to Follow for Instructions:
Keep doing the current intervention, but focus on making phonics lessons more in-depth by
adding more difficult words with multiple syllables and better decoding techniques. Regularly
check on progress by giving yourself tests every week to see how well this plan is working.
Individual Goal: Within the next four weeks, improve the student's ability to decode words with
more than one syllable by 10%.
Monitoring Progress: Give weekly tests that focus on reading words with more than one
syllable, and use a graph to show how much the student has improved. Students will be told to
keep track of their own growth and make goals for themselves.
Case Summary for Student 2:
, Initial Summary and Analysis: Student 2 Case's percentile scores haven't changed much during
the intervention period; they are still well below the 50th percentile. This makes me think that
the current solution might not be meeting their needs well.
