Benchmark – Learn through Play
, Grocery Store
Rationale
This dramatic play environment was chosen because it has all materials along the
wall creating an open space for multiple children to move around comfortably. As well as
there is a cash register toward the “exit” of the center which is similar to real-life check-out
situation. To further create real-world scenarios, the placement of materials is organized in
classified spaces (Eggs, juice, and waffles in the refrigerator/freezer section, fruits and
vegetables on the same rack etc.). However, the most engaging part of the market is the
parent-donated items that children see at home. Items that inherently connect home life, the
real world, and school.
