1.1 In my community, the idea of Ubuntu plays a big role in how people live and relate
with one another. Ubuntu teaches us that "I am because we are." This means that we
must always think about others, not just ourselves. For example, if someone in our area
has lost a loved one, the whole community comes together to support them. Some bring
food, others help with funeral arrangements, and people pray together. We don’t need
to be related by blood to care. Ubuntu encourages kindness, respect, and working
together. When someone is in need, we help because tomorrow it might be us needing
the same help. This way of living brings peace, love, and unity among us.
1.2 There was a time when two neighbours in our community had a serious fight over
land boundaries. They didn’t speak for months. One day, elders from the community
came to mediate. They listened to both sides and helped them understand each other.
After the talk, the two shook hands, shared a meal, and even went to church together
that Sunday. This act of making peace showed Ubuntu because it was not just about
winning or losing the argument, but about restoring relationships. The elders reminded
them that we all live together and need one another. Ubuntu values forgiveness,
understanding, and rebuilding broken ties.
1.3 Ubuntu is built on values such as respect, compassion, kindness, sharing, and unity.
These values are what make a community feel like home. For example, when my
neighbour’s house burned down, many people donated clothes, food, and even helped
rebuild the home. Another example is during school holidays, when some mothers in
our area gather children and provide meals and fun activities. They do this not because
they are rich, but because they care. These actions show that Ubuntu lives in the hearts
of the people who help, share, and support others without expecting anything in return.
