7 TH GRADE MATHEMATICS
Proportion
-The relationship of one thing to another in size, amount, etc. 2. Size or weight relationships
among structures or among elements in a single structure.
Ratio
-A comparison of two quantities by division
Unit rate
-A rate in which the second quantity in the comparison is one unit.
Percentage
-A ratio that compares a number to 100.
x-axis
-The horizontal number line in a coordinate plane.
y-axis
-The vertical axis on a coordinate plane.
Scale Factor
-The ratio used to enlarge or reduce similar figures.
Equation
-A mathematical sentence that shows that two expressions are equivalent.
Dilation
-A transformation that changes the size of an object, but not the shape.
Diameter
-A straight line passing from side to side through the center of a circle or sphere.
Radius
-A straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere.
Rectangular Area
LW=A
length
-Distance between two points.
Area of a triangle
A=1/2bh
Area of a circle
A=πr²
Area
-The number of square units required to cover a surface.
Perimeter
-The distance around a figure.
Absolute value
-The distance a number is from zero on a number line.
Associative Property
-Changing the grouping of numbers will NOT change the value. For example: (7 + 4) + 8 = 7 +
(4 + 8) also works with multiplication.
Commutative Property
-The property that says that two or more numbers can be added or multiplied in any order
without changing the result.
Expression
-A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers, and/or variables.
Integer -All whole numbers (both positive and negative) and zero.
