Take Home Final: Sacred Structures
Over time the structures that people used in regards to worship changed to become more
convenient for the people practicing religion, and these structures also changed based on the
religion that it was meant for and to become more well-crafted. In earlier art, objects were used
to be a stand-in for people when it came to worship due to the fact that not many people were
allowed to enter into sacred buildings. As time went on more people were allowed to enter these
spaces, which shifted the focus of how buildings were created and how people used objects in
worship. With the passing of time there was a large focus on religious buildings and making sure
that they fit the religious goals alongside being sturdy and a wonder to look at. Items of worship
were also still used and were placed within architecture. There was a focus on pieces that would
be thought to carry prayers to a person’s god, and pieces that were thought to have come directly
from a religious figure. Either way, over time religious buildings and objects became more
complex and a large focus in people’s lives.

the ancient near eastern period are a great example of everyday people using an object as a way
to partake in prayers and other forms of worshiping. Everyday citizens were not the only people
