1) How will you use empathy to build respect and trust in a helping relationship
with Faith? (2)
To build trust and respect with Faith, I would show real care and understanding for what
she is going through. I would listen carefully to her without judging her, and try to feel
what she is feeling — the sadness, the stress, and the fear. I would make sure that
Faith feels heard and understood by saying things like, "It sounds like you have been
carrying a very heavy load lately." By showing genuine warmth, patience, and kindness,
I can create a safe space where she feels respected and can trust me to help her.
2) Five different types of listening and practical examples (5)
Here are five types of listening I would use with Faith:
Active Listening
I would focus completely on Faith when she talks — no distractions. I would nod,
make eye contact, and say small things like “I see” or “Tell me more” to show I
am really paying attention.
Reflective Listening
After Faith shares something, I would repeat it in my own words to make sure I
understood her. For example, if she says she feels overwhelmed, I could say, "It
sounds like you're feeling like everything is too much right now."
