These terms help describe the location of structures in relation to others. • Anterior: Front • Posterior: Back • Superior: Above • Inferior: Below • Lateral: Away from the middle • Medial: Toward the middle • Proximal: Closer to the attachment point (usually limb to trunk) • Distal: Farther from the attachment point • Superficial: Near the surface • Deep: Far from the surface
