Using PICO (T) Approach to Improve Stroke Care
Strokes are the second leading cause of impairment and death worldwide (Ma, 2022).
Implementing evidence-based interventions is essential for the functional recovery and quality of
life of stroke patients. This paper will explore practice-related issues in stroke care using the
PICO(T) framework and provide reliable, credible sources to inform the application of these
interventions. By utilizing the PICO(T) approach, this paper aims to focus on evidence-based
resources derived from the formulated question, offering clearer strategies and interventions for
addressing concerns in the care of stroke patients.
Defining the Practice Issue and PICO (T) Question
In the context of stroke diagnosis, the most pressing issues that need investigation are the
implementation of evidence-based interventions aimed at improving functional outcomes for
stroke survivors. Using the PICO (T) framework, the research question to be addressed is: In
, stroke patients (P), how does including environmental interventions (I), compared to function
only interventions (C), affect post stroke recovery (O) long-term (T)? This inquiry focuses on
adult stroke patients recovering from cerebrovascular accidents (CVA) or transient ischemic
attacks (TIA) and the rehabilitation post-stroke. By utilizing the PICO (T) approach, researchers
can effectively narrow their evidence to specific populations of concern, such as stroke patients.
The interventions involve evidence-based practice (EBP), with a comparison of function only
rehabilitation versus environmentally included interventions and how outcomes focus on quality
of life and recovery (Kylen et al,.2021)
