This essay/assignment covers Unit 19 - The Internet Of Things Assignment 1 with all criterias met to achieve the highest grade (Distinction) possible along with correct structure. Just follow the content step by step to save time and also to reduce complexity. Note: This will support those in achieving distinction in an effortless way where possible. Criteria covered: Learning Aim B: P3: Produced an IoT system or device design to solve a problem, including the architecture, standards, communication requirements and security. P4: Reviewed the IoT system or device design with others to identify and inform improvements. M2: Justified design decisions, showing how the system or device design will result in an effective IoT system or service solution. D2: Evaluated an optimised IoT system or device design to solve a problem against the client’s requirements and using feedback from others.

Unit 19: The Internet of Things – Assignment 2
Introduction:
In this assignment, I have been asked by my manager to develop a prototype system which solves
the problem with the company’s current alarm systems and then release this to the clients. In
addition, I will be choosing a Raspberry Pi so that I expect to use the device to detect movements in
every room using a camera and send alerts directly via email and being able to notify or report to the
homeowner immediately.

Additionally, I will start by producing designs for the system which adheres to the principles and
characteristics of IoT. The design that I will produce would include smoke alarm sensors, cameras
and Raspberry Pi device. I will also be reviewing the designs to at least two classmates to help me
identify and make improvements and then create a second version

The first process would be to switch on the
power which connects to the circuit and the
suggested solution would be to power the
Raspberry Pi is by simply using the Micro USB
port on the side of the unit.

The HDMI port allows users to monitor the
intruders in a high-resolution display to
recognise their ID and take an automatic
photo to report to the owner.

The camera module will be used to take high The display will be used to give users/clients
definition video as well as stills photographs the ability to create all-in-one, integrated
and can take full high-resolution quality for objects such as tablets, infotainment systems
photos and videos which can then be and embedded projects. The 800 x 480 display
controlled programmatically. connects via an adapter board which handles
power and signal conversion.

In this scheme of diagram above I have illustrated the annotations of each process to explain what
and where each device connects to each other.

An additional device of motion detector will be used to detect and measure movement. Motion
sensors and are usable primarily for home security systems and will be very useful to consider this
type of device. The device will simply record noises of footsteps if a stranger is nearby the entrance
areas of the house/apartment.

Node block diagram:

Motion Sensor – Sensors are used by wireless sensor nodes to detect
data from environment. These devices aim to make sure there are
accurate response to a change in a physical condition such as capturing
level of noise being made indoors. For Instance, a motion sensor that I
have chosen will be measuring and collecting data when movements are
made.

Power Supply – Power supply will be used to supply CCTV camera – I will be considering cameras to be
electric power to an electrical load to be able to use put in place for surveillance and used to monitor
the devices. It would be best for unlimited battery both interior and exterior of the property,
to keep devices remain switched on. transmitting to either signal or multiple monitors.
This will be useful to identify intruders after an
alarm has been set off.

Motion Sensor/Raspberry Pi
Wireless & Bluetooth connectivity will be
preferable. These connection methods will be useful
for the motion sensor and raspberry pi as I
Cloud Storage– There will be useful data such as

to another wireless device along with sharing the
which will be stored in a remote physical location.
same internet will be ideal. It would be much
simpler to control every device, sending emails,
monitoring each room of the property and many
more.

From an energy perspective, the most relevant type
of memory would be RAM on the raspberry pi that I
have designed. Alternatively, flash memories could
be used however may be costly and have lower
storage capacity. Memory requirements are very
much application dependent.
